Project Almanac is the latest teen-found-footage-horror flick to hit theaters, although it does come with a twist: There’s time travel! That twist wasn’t enough to win over the critics, though, who probably wish they could travel back in time and never have seen it. The film currently has a low 35% score on Rotten Tomatoes. We rounded up the best critic slams of the movie so you don’t have to waste any time on it.

USA TODAY’s own Claudia Puig:

“How about a moratorium on the found-footage genre? What was once fresh and innovative now is tired and overdone.” (Read the full review here.)

San Francisco Chronicle:

“I found it hard to care about anybody, when I wasn’t too busy trying not to get sick anyway.”

The Associated Press:

“What have we done to deserve another found-footage movie?”

Toronto Star:

“Bizarre camerawork and that laziest of all plot devices, the stash of found footage, soon slots it in the ‘unrealized potential’ category.”

Detroit News:

“Lesson learned: time travel is difficult, but making it work on screen is even harder.”

Although one critic was able to look on the bright side:

The Boston Globe:

“(It) could have been a lot worse.”
