Singer Kelly Rowland has experienced both the beginning and the end of life in a span of less than one month.
Her mother, Doris Rowland Garrison, died on Tuesday at the age of 66 only a few weeks after the birth of Kelly’s first son, Titan Jewell Weatherspoon.
The 33-year-old singer said in a statement released to the Associated Press on Wednesday that her mother was ‘an incredible soul who made countless sacrifices.’
Additionally sad is the fact that Doris died only a few days before her 67th birthday on December 6.
Although no cause of death has been announced, Kelly’s mother passed away in her hometown of Atlanta.
Kelly and her older brother, Orlando, were raised almost exclusively by Doris after their parents divorced in 1988.
Doris then took her children from their Atlanta home one year later and relocated the family to Houston.
By 1992, when Kelly was just 11 years old, she had joined a girl group called Girl’s Tyme.
Others in the group included Beyonce Knowles and LaTavia Roberson – with Kelly, these two would eventually become the original Destiny’s Child line-up.
